The Finance Department is the brainchild of our Managing Director, Mike Watts. With extensive experience as an in-house Financial Director and as a consultant for large accountancy firms, Mike identified a gap in the market for a more adaptable financial management solution for businesses. Having observed the limitations of relying solely on communication with accountants and the impact on internal teams managing day-to-day accounts, Mike embarked on a mission to transform the financial management landscape.

Mike Watts - Managing Director, FCMA

After earning his Accounting and Finance degree, Mike began his career in Central Government, transitioning to the commercial sector. He held a global reporting role at Nortel Networks, a multinational telecommunications and data networking equipment manufacturer before becoming the Finance Director (FD) for a local entrepreneurial business services company, Crisp Group. During his 10-year tenure as FD, Mike provided Non-Executive FD support to Crisp clients across various sectors and created an outsourced finance offering.

Mike currently offers interim and part-time FD support to SMEs and the public sector across the South West in diverse industries, with turnovers between 1m and 30m. Additionally, Mike drives The Finance Department, committed to providing flexible financial direction to businesses.

Jo Watts - Commercial Director

With 20 years of experience running her own retail business in Torbay, Jo brings valuable insights in retail, HR, and procurement. She supports a variety of companies, typically with less than 1m turnover and 50 employees, with a strong focus on HR and procurement.
